The Physics Department machine shop is a great asset at the disposal of the various research groups. With ~5,000 square feet of space the shop can take on large and small projects alike. The shop supervisor and three shop machinists are highly skilled. We have a wide variety of machine tools, many of which have been recently renovated and upgraded for digital operation. The shop has two large CNC milling centers. The machinists are trained in the use of MasterCAM, which provides the ability to convert CAD drawings to G code and directly transfer this to the CNC mills.
